RESTORATIONS

RESTORATIONS

Dental care is multi-faceted and encompasses three distinct levels: prevention, restoration and maintenance. Many-a-times, a simple but efficiently delivered restoration can be the go-to solution to your tooth problem. If executed well, it can not only prevent the tooth from undergoing more complex treatments but at times can even take care of your tooth for life.

Direct Restorations (Fillings)

A thoroughly compacted and neatly polished restoration is the best treatment one can offer a patient, as by doing that we are prolonging the life of the tooth and making the tooth self-cleansing again. Composite & high strength/resin bonded glass-ionomers are used for restorations. The simplest and the least expensive dental treatment, a filling can restore or destroy the vitality/structure of the tooth. Where a good filling can prevent the tooth from any further treatment and restore the tooth back to normalcy in the most conservative, cost effective manner, at the same time a bad filling can make you lose your tooth eventually. Understanding the criticality of this seemingly simple procedure the fillings are done with utmost care by trained doctors.

Indirect Restorations

An inlay or an onlay is an indirect restoration, a rigid & firm substitute for a direct filling advocated in a tooth which cannot be/may not be successfully restored with help of a regular filling.

Tooth conditions where inlay/onlay is advocated
  • Chipped/broken tooth where the tooth nerve/pulp is not yet exposed
  • Cavities leading to loss of contact areas between teeth
  • Deep cavities nearing pulp but not involved pulp or nerve canals
  • Deep cavities involving extensive loss of tooth structure

The procedure requires expertise and if properly done inlay/onlay goes a long way, sometimes even a lifetime in preserving the vitality (life) of a tooth without the need of doing a root canal treatment.
