Typically, after a span of three-four months post implant(s) placement, a crown for a single missing tooth space or a bridge spanning over multiple missing teeth or even a denture for the whole jaw is fixed/screwed on top of the implants making it a permanent fixture/fixed replacement for teeth right from the root level. This sort of arrangement best allows the patient to resume & enjoy his/her normal activities of chewing, talking, laughing, outdoor activities etc.

A titanium-made root-shaped component is placed in the bone under local anesthesia, in place of an extracted tooth/missing tooth and the area is closed for 3-4 months to allow the natural bone to integrate around the implant.

The timing of placement of implant may vary. It may either be placed few weeks/months  after tooth extraction(Delayed placement) or during the same visit of extraction of tooth/teeth(Immediate placement). The choice may be based on the condition of the bone & surrounding anatomic structures/medical condition/experience of the implant surgeon/patient preference.
